Brettenham Primary School is currently involved in an exciting ‘Connecting Classrooms Through Global Learning’ (CCGL) project with the other 4 schools in the ‘Children First Academy Trust’ and 5 schools in Nepal.
CCGL is an international programme supporting the teaching and learning of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which complements the work that Brettenham does as a UNICEF Rights Respecting School (Level 2).
Brettenham’s partner school is in Kathmandu, and during the project joint activities will take place, which will help pupils to understand the big issues that shape our world, and equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to make a positive contribution.
First Project Activities
Year 1 Project Activities
January - February 2021
'Our SMSC topic this term was 'What Does it Mean to Belong?' We looked at the school badge of our partner school in Kathmandu, Nepal, and the children designed their own to show what belonging to Brettenham Primary School means to them.'
Our School Environment and our Journeys to School
We made this film, to show our school environment and to share how we travel to school. We also had some questions for our partner school in Nepal!
Postcards to Nepal
'Our geography topic for Spring 1 was 'The Continents and the Oceans.' We looked at the differences and similarities between life in Nepal, in Asia, and life here in the UK, focusing on daily life - our homes, our journeys to school, the views from our windows and our favourite foods. The children wrote postcards to children in our partner school in Kathmandu, sharing some facts about their lives, and asking some questions.'
